Lightsaber

...an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Lightsaber. It's name is synonymous with Jedi since the creation of the Jedi Order. It is potentially the most destructive small or personal weapon that has been created. Featuring a blade made of energy by using rather simple technology it is unimaginably efficient. It produces almost no heat until it contacts solid matter, to which it will cut or melt through most materials.

The lightsaber blade is made through an emitter matrix powered by a highly efficient powercell. It's systems are maintained and controlled by a set of dimetris circuit boards which are activated and modified by a set of buttons or switches on the exterior. The power coming from the emitter matrix is focused into a set of one to three crystals, usually adegian, and the energy that results is focused either through a set of focusing lenses, tap pin, or other energy focusing system. The lenses condense shape and focus the beam down into a controlled format so that the energy will flow out in a line. A high energy reflector cup on the outside end will keep the blade from eating back into the hilt and into the wielders hands. If built correctly the blade will be somewhere around 110 centimeters in length and cool, for the most part.

The only currently known materials that can stand up to a lightsaber are Phrik alloy, Ditanium alloy, and Cortosis Ore fiber. Phrik and Ditanium are simply sturdy enough to withstand punishing blows from lightsabers. Cortosis will block, disrupt or destroy a lightsaber beam depending on the amount of Cortosis present. As a result over the millenia Cortosis has been woven into vibro-blades to make them stand up to lightsabers, as well as some rare armors. Phrik alloy was developed somewhere around the time of the Clone Wars and was put into effect on Electro-staffs used by General Grievous' personal elite guard droids: Magna-Guards which were designed to be able to take Jedi in melee combat.

Ditanium has been used in heavy construction in various parts of the galaxy, but only in the last eighty standard years has it been discovered that this alloy was viable as standing up to a lightsaber. How long it may absorb this punishment is unknown.
